Beaumont USD Teacher to Publish Fourth Children’s Book

Beaumont, CA— Fourth grade teacher Lindsay Hill for the Beaumont Unified School District hopes her published children’s books and life-long struggle with dyslexia inspires others to never give up––especially for students struggling to read and write.

“When I was a lot younger, it was very difficult to figure out what each letter really represented and to put a sentence together,” explained Hill. Yet, her favorite part of the day was hearing her teacher read to the class. From that early experience, Hill set out to become a teacher to help others with their reading.

“I really want students to love literacy just by reading to them; just by having them hear the story outloud, and even through art,” explains Hill. As part of this effort, Hill displays colorful, hand-painted murals stretching from the ceiling to floor with characters from class-assigned novels. As students read, they are able to visually connect more with the words and sentences of the books.

Hill’s love for writing and creativity is contagious. Allen Ramos said he worked on his own fictional book centered around the gold-rush for a homework assignment. “I love adding silly things––all this magic in my books,” adding “It was by far probably the best homework I ever had.”

Hill expects to publish her fourth children’s book titled, “Ocean Catching Twilight and the Sea Horse Races” by April 2026. The book is part of the "Twilight Expedition Series.” Hill writes and illustrates all of the books, which sources inspiration from her three daughters, childhood memories, and the students she has taught over the years.

Editors Note: Lindsay Hill is a fourth grade teacher at Sundance Elementary School. She has a Master of Arts in Education and a Bachelors of Science in Child Development. She is the 2024 Riverside County Office of Education Teacher of the Year and received a special literacy award from The American Literacy Corporation: Outstanding Contributions to Literacy Award 2022-23.
