What is an Inter-District Transfer?
An Inter-District transfer is a transfer request from parents of students who reside outside of the Beaumont USD boundary and would like for their child to attend Beaumont USD.
Inter-District Transfer Process
- The student must first be released from their district of residence.
- Copies of attendance, grades, and discipline must be submitted with the Inter-District request
- Inter–District transfers are to the district, not a particular school.
- Beaumont USD will attempt to accommodate the parent’s request for a particular school, but the request is not guaranteed. Placement at a specific school is based on space availability, as determined by the district, not the school site.
- Inter-District transfers will be accepted throughout the year.
- Interdistrict transfer permits are valid only for the school year approved; therefore, must be renewed on an annual basis during the open enrollment transfer window. Failure by the Parent/Legal guardian to meet the timelines will constitute an abandonment of the request and student will need to attend their school in their district of residence.
Please email the completed Inter-District transfer permit and additional documents to our transfer clerk at [email protected].
Inter-District Timelines
- We will accept New Inter-District Transfer requests from February 1- March 31, 2024.
- Families will be notified of acceptance or denial via email by July 19, 2024, if the transfer was turned in between Feb 1-March 31st.
- Failure to meet our deadline will be decided on a case-by-case basis, and with no guarantee of transfer to the site you have chosen.
- For an Interdistrict transfer request received by the District 15 or fewer calendar days before the commencement of instruction in the school year for which the transfer is sought, the District will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision within 30 calendar days from the date the request was received.
- For an Interdistrict transfer request received by the District more than 15 days before the commencement of instruction in the school year for which the interdistrict transfer is sought, the District will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision as soon as possible, but no later than 14 calendar days after the commencement of instruction in the school year for which transfer is sought.
- We will continue to accept inter-district transfers throughout the school year based on space availability.
Regulations and policies governing Inter-District attendance permits
In accordance with Sections 46600 to 46609 of the Education Code, the school districts of Riverside County establish Inter-District agreements annually, which provide for the exchange of pupils. The enrollment of pupils from districts, other than that of residence is not mandatory. If there is sufficient room in the district, school, and program of desired attendance, requests will be considered, provided the reasons are justifiable and in accordance with District governing Board Policy BP 5117; AR5117.
Reasons for Approvals
- To meet the child care needs of the student, only as long as the student’s child care provider remains within district boundaries
- To meet the student’s special mental or physical health needs as certified by a physician, school psychologist, or other appropriate school personnel.
- When the student has a sibling attending school in the receiving district, to avoid splitting the family's attendance
- To allow the student to complete a school year when the student’s parents/guardians have moved out of the district during that year
- To allow the student to remain with a class graduating that year from an elementary, middle, or senior high school
- To allow a high school senior to attend the same school attended as a junior, even if the student’s family moved out of the district during the junior year
- When the parent/guardian provides written evidence that the family will be moving into the district in the immediate future and would like the student to start the school year in the district
- When the student will be living out of the district for one year or less
Reasons for Denials/Revocations
It is very important to keep the following in mind:
- The student has unsatisfactory attendance and/or tardies
- The student has caused continued disruption
- Academic progress is not being made
- The District discovers that false information has been given
- Please be advised that if your Inter-District transfer is approved and conditions are not maintained, the transfer request may be revoked and the student may be required to return to their district of residence.
- If the student’s Inter-District transfer request is denied, the District shall, in writing, notify the parent/guardians of their right to appeal to the County Board of Education within 30 calendar days from the date of final denial.
