 APPLY TO BECOME A BEAUMONT USD STUDENT BOARD MEMBER

 

BACKGROUND
 
The Board of Trustees believes in enhancing communication and collaboration with students in order to gain insight into student ideas, perspectives, and feedback on the District's educational programs. The Board also believes in teaching students the importance of civic involvement and supports the participation of a Student Board Member in the District's governance. 
 
 
Each year, the Board of Trustees shall include two Student Board Members who will be selected through an application and interview process. 
 
 
ELIGIBILITY
 
Any current Beaumont Unified School District high school junior in good standing may apply. 
 
COMMITMENT AND TERMS 
 
The Student Board Representative will:
 
(1) Attend bi-weekly and monthly Beaumont USD Board meetings.
(2) Study Board agendas and come to Board meetings prepared with feedback on student-related topics. 
(3) Serve as the student voice for the School District.
(3) Prepare a presentation on school site events and activities for each board meeting. 
(4) Serve on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.
 
We will select two students per school year. Each student will serve a semester as Board Representative.

SELECTION & APPOINTMENT PROCESS

 
All applications received by the deadline will be reviewed, and finalists will be selected and invited to interview in person. The finalists will be interviewed by the Student Board Member Selection Committee, which consists of Beaumont Unified School District Board Members, the Superintendent, and the Communications Officer. 
 
The selection committee will choose the students who will serve as Student Board Members. Applicants will receive notification of the final selection.

Braxton Swartz
Beaumont High School
Serving Term 1: September - December 2022

 

Born and raised in Cherry Valley, Braxton Swartz has attended school in the Beaumont Unified School District since kindergarten.

Braxton Swartz

 Now a Senior at Beaumont High School (BHS), he is committed to giving back to the District and the school community that has given him so much.

Braxton has won three consecutive scholar-athlete awards as a former member of Beaumont High School's varsity swim, water polo, and tennis team. And, with the rest of his teammates, he reached the CIF semi-finals in tennis while receiving the All-League patch in the Citrus Belt League. Additionally, he is a cabinet member of the Best Buddies program and works toward a more inclusive environment between the general student body and special education.

Working around 35 hours a week at a local restaurant, Braxton is growing his work experience while also learning how to communicate with a wide variety of people in the hospitality industry and use this experience to develop connections and networks. In his free time, he enjoys playing any sport and running.

 
 
Kirsten Cabalonga
Beaumont High School
Serving Term 2: January - May 2023

 

Kirsten Cabalonga is a current senior at Beaumont High School.

Kirsten Cabalonga

Attending schools in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Texas, she enrolled in the Beaumont Unified School District during her sophomore year of high school. 

She is committed to providing the student body a voice on the District’s Board.

A member of her school’s Academic Decathlon, Cabalonga has won awards at both the county and the state levels. Additionally, as a member of HOSA - Future Health Professionals, she has competed at the State Conference and the International Conference, acquiring new experiences and perspectives while preparing for a career in medicine.

Being a part of the Mental Health Awareness Group, she also works towards erasing the stigma against mental health, attending workshops on suicide prevention, and helping spread information on the program across the country. In her free time, she enjoys singing karaoke and studying languages.
