CURRENT TERM 2021-22
Taryn Thomas, Student Board Member

Taryn Thomas is the newly appointed Student Board Member of the Beaumont Unified School Board, where she is committed to representing the diverse student populace and their concerns to the board. She hopes to accomplish student empowerment and representation in key district decisions. She envisions Beaumont Unified School District to be leading in positive changes and forward progress.

At the school level, she founded the Mental Awareness Group, implementing prevention and early intervention methods for at-risk students, and hosted suicide prevention training. She also serves on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council, engaging regularly in civic discourse to improve student outcomes. Additionally, she is the Scholarship Chairperson of the National Honor Society.

After being appointed as the Governmental Affairs and Policy Director of California Association of Student Councils (CASC) overseeing Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, she led two overarching civic engagement campaigns: seating student board members in school districts without one and establishing city youth advisory councils. She has authored and initiated the proposal developing the Beaumont Youth Council. Additionally, she serves as the Co-Commissioner of the Riverside County Youth Advisory Council advising Supervisor Jeff Hewit in addressing anticipated needs of youth. Lastly, she serves as a board member of the Redlands Youth Council.

As the student board member, Taryn is focusing on a few key initiatives: racial equity, mental health, school culture, student health and safety.

Taryn is currently a senior at Beaumont High School. She plans to major in Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis on Neuroscience. She is Stanford-bound for the Class of 2026.

Taryn invites all education stakeholders to advocate for the change they want to see in their education system by contacting her via email.
